You have to be intent on finding the crease to see it. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is half the thickness and feels almost half the weight of the Z Fold 6. If you are thinking about this upgrade, stop thinking and do it.

I chose it because I love the ability to use it open or closed. The Fold 8 Ultra is so much thinner than my old Fold phone and the screen is even brighter and looks amazing. This phone has allowed me to multi cast and 2 both at the same time. 80% or more of the day is me being on my phone for work when I'm away from the desk. The battery last all day and the quality and brightness of the screen allows for me to do everything I can do on a computer to now do it on the phone. Outside of work I play racing games and gotcha games with the large screen size and the response time are on par with playing on a pc. This phone allows for me to control my house ecosystem.

It's so slim that, despite being a foldable, its thickness is very similar to a regular flagship phone when folded. Once you open it, the large inner display is incredible for multitasking, reading, and watching videos, yet it still feels comfortable to carry in your pocket. The build quality feels premium, the software is smooth, and the battery easily gets me through the day. The phone is much easier to open, and has a satisfying spring to open and close. It feels like it opens flatter in the hand and at least for now, the crease can hardly be felt. Hope it stays like this for the duration. Battery has been very impressive given I havet even fully charged it since getting it.

The moment you unfold it, the screen just draws you in. It feels less like a phone and more like carrying a small tablet that happens to fit in my pocket. What sold me was the multitasking. I can have my notes open on one side, a browser on the other, and reply to messages without losing my place. For someone who works on the go, that has been a genuine game changer. The camera has surprised me too. Low light shots come out crisp, and the colours look true to life rather than overcooked. Fold 7 was tempting but the lacklustre battery life held me back. Finally this year, the fold 8 and fold 8 ultra addressed the battery life issue with keeping the same slim physical silhouette. I choose the fold 8 ultra because I wanted the better camera, even though the fold 8 form factor was very tempting. Build quality is phenomenal, feels solid and well built. Love all the little touches with the software as well. Only thing I very much dislike is the speakers. Can't use speaker phone, which is how I normally always take calls. Volume is so soft and the speakers occasionally make crackling noise. S25 ultra was far superior in this aspect. Other than that I'm relatively satisfied.

I also find texting and typing easier on the wide screen as I have large fingers so having the option for a wider display is so helpful for me. My only gripe is all the AI that is packed into everything nowadays. Some stuff is useful like detecting unwanted content but the AI in the camera takes away from the magic of a photo and I wish they would give the option to toggle it on and off. I also dislike all the AI apps they install from a fresh setup but thats fine to remove. Apart from my dislike of all the AI garbage stuffed into products nowadays I can at least count on Samsung to innovate with every new phone the release.

I'm a retired mechanical engineer so am very focused on build quality and all of my Z models have performed well. When I received my device I was genuinely surprised and impressed by its larger main display and larger inner display. When I put my older Z Fold 3 next to it I noticed the device was larger in ways that were not flattering and smaller in ways that limited productivity. The slightly, but noticeably, larger screen is really what surprised me the most. I was already expecting better overall performance as I skipped upgrading over the 6 and 7. But, as I keep mentioning, the larger display really does mimic a slab from my note 10+ days something I had come to miss but wouldn't trade off the massive innerscreen as I use this device as my main device for browsing websites. Where the sometimes smaller is better comes in is when you compare the two devices in thickness. Now, I didn't really mind the thickness of the Fold 5 as it was very similar if not identical to my Fold 3. However, the new device is much slimmer which I would say oddly adds a premium feel to my Fold 8 Ultra. The screens on the Fold 8 Ultra are very bright which is clear when I compare them to my old devices. The PPI also seems to be more dense even though I haven't looked at the specs to see if I'm just imagining this. Great quality all around. Ultimately I would recommend the upgrade if you're coming from a 5 to an 8. I cannot tell you to do so if you have a 6 or 7 because I have no experience with those devices.

This phone has amazing power and the large fold out screen allows me to do most of my work on the phone itself. For times when I need more of an operating system I plug the phone into my external monitor and use the DEX platform. Overall very happy with this new form factor and the fact that this phone has completely replaced my laptop.
